After a 9-hour protest outside the Election Commission office in Delhi, the Delhi Police detained the protesters. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were among the protesters. The opposition INDIA alliance had staged the protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. As the police put Rahul and Priyanka into a police vehicle and took them to the Kingsway Police Camp in North Delhi, Congress workers strongly protested against it. However, this was not the first time the police had detained Rahul and Priyanka. At noon as well, the two were seen being put into a vehicle by the police and taken elsewhere. Speaking to journalists, Mr. Gandhi said, although the Election Commission office is only 50 metres from here, we are not being given an opportunity to meet the Chief Election Commissioner. While 300 MPs want to meet Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, his refusal to meet them means that he is afraid. Mr. Gandhi questioned what democracy means then.
Delhi Police detained Rahul and Priyanka from the protest site.
