Electricity bills will become expensive!

New Delhi : Prices of goods are continuously rising. After Amul, milk, petrol, and diesel, discussions are now intensifying that electricity bills may also become expensive. The Middle East crisis has affected many countries around the world, and India is no exception. After the attacks on Iran by America and Israel, the world is facing an energy crisis. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to limit the use of imported goods. Following the Prime Minister’s appeal, the prices of milk, petrol, diesel, and CNG have increased. In this era of inflation, after the Prime Minister’s appeal, people have started turning towards electric vehicles. At the same time, electricity usage increases significantly during summer. Therefore, it is safe to say that electricity consumption will rise in the future, and the government may take important steps regarding this issue.

Whether electricity will become expensive or not is a matter for the future. But before that happens, know about five important methods that can significantly reduce your electricity bill. These methods will be especially useful during summer, when families use the most electricity.

Most people set their AC temperature to 16–18 degrees Celsius for immediate cooling, which consumes a lot of energy. According to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, 24 degrees Celsius is the most comfortable temperature for humans. Every one-degree increase can save about 6 percent electricity. If the whole family adopts this habit, they can easily save hundreds of rupees on their monthly bill.

Running the ceiling fan at low speed while the AC is on helps circulate cool air evenly throughout the room. This reduces the load on the compressor and cools the room faster. Fans consume very little power but reduce the strain on the AC.

Old incandescent bulbs are still used in many homes and waste a lot of electricity. LED bulbs not only use up to 80 percent less electricity but also emit less heat, which helps control room temperature. Once invested in, they last a long time and the maintenance cost is almost zero.

Keeping your TV, microwave, washing machine, or computer on standby mode continuously consumes electricity. Many devices use 5–10 percent of their power even in standby mode. Turn them off completely or unplug them after use. Adopting this habit can save hundreds of electricity units throughout the year.

Keep thick curtains closed during bright sunlight hours in the daytime to block heat. Open windows in the evening so natural air can enter. While running the AC, seal any gaps in doors and windows with door seals or weather stripping to prevent cool air from escaping. This reduces the AC’s workload and saves electricity.

An AC with dusty filters has to work harder, which increases electricity consumption. Cleaning the filters every 15–20 days maintains the cooling efficiency of the AC and saves electricity. According to many experts, an AC with clean filters uses 10–15 percent less electricity.
