New Delhi : Today, legislative assembly elections are taking place in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry. Voting will be held for 296 seats across two states and one Union Territory. Voters will decide the fate of 1,899 candidates. Voting will be conducted for 126 seats in Assam. There will be a contest for 30 seats in Puducherry. Voting will be held for 140 seats in Kerala.In the northeastern state of Assam, voting for the 2026 legislative assembly elections will be held today. It will begin at 7 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m. A total of 722 candidates are contesting for 126 assembly seats in the state. The state’s Chief Electoral Officer, Anurag Goel, said that a majority of 64 seats is required to win the election and form the government; the votes will be counted on May 4. Meanwhile, in the current electoral contest, a tough competition is being seen between Himanta Biswa Sarma and Gaurav Gogoi. The results of exit polls are scheduled to be released on April 29.The Election Commission of India (ECI) published the final voter list on February 10, 2026, after a special intensive revision (SIR), in which the total number of voters was 24,958,139.
