Questions raised over three passports of Himanta’s wife : Assam Police reaches Congress leader Pawan Khera’s Delhi residence.

New Delhi, 07/04: A team of Assam Police has reached the Delhi residence of Congress leader Pawan Khera for questioning. A team of Delhi Police is also present along with the Assam Police. Recently, Khera, during a press conference, had claimed that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife possesses three passports. Sarma’s wife denied these allegations and filed an FIR. A day later, Assam Police reached Khera’s house. However, Khera was not present at his residence when the police arrived. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he had fled to Hyderabad.  What did Pawan Khera say?  Congress media cell chief Pawan Khera, during a press conference on April 5, made several allegations against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife regarding family assets and financial dealings. He also asked, “How does the Chief Minister’s wife have three different passports? Why does she need three passports? Is she a criminal?”  He also questioned whether Himanta Biswa Sarma himself has more than one passport. After losing the Assam elections, is he preparing to flee? Alleging against the Chief Minister, he said, “Himanta Biswa Sarma’s entire politics is based on hatred towards Muslims, yet his wife holds passports of two Muslim countries. How is that possible? Under Indian law, you cannot have dual citizenship. So, does Rinki Bhuyan Sarma also have an Indian passport? Did Home Minister Amit Shah know that his protégé’s wife has three passports? The Home Minister should answer—will he form an SIT to investigate this matter?”  Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma responded to the allegations made by Congress leader Pawan Khera. Rejecting all the allegations, he said that he and his wife Rinki Sharma would file criminal and defamation cases against Khera within 48 hours. On April 6, an FIR was filed against Khera.
