New information has emerged about the notorious terrorist Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the attack on America’s Twin Towers. Osama would have attacked India before the 9/11 attack on America. The US intelligence agency CIA had informed then US President Clinton about this in 1998. Not just India, Pakistan, Uganda and Nigeria were also among Osama’s targets. Although there were fears of terrorist attacks by Osama against America and Britain, the above-mentioned countries were his priorities. Therefore, the Clinton administration did not give this information much importance at the time. This came to light recently after this CIA report was published in some media outlets.
The report says that after narrowly escaping a US missile attack on August 28, 1998, Osama had attempted to establish his own empire. He had succeeded in establishing his network in around 60 countries. He considered India an enemy state. Since a large number of Hindus and Christians lived in India, India was one of his major targets. Besides, India’s close relations with America and Israel at the time were another reason for Osama targeting India. As part of his plan, in August 1998 Osama carried out suicide attacks on the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, in which more than 200 people were killed. It was only after this incident that America began treating Osama as its arch-enemy and taking action accordingly. Not only that, Osama had also targeted areas where America had interests for destruction. In North America, Europe and East Asia as well, he had begun establishing his organization and laying out plans for his campaign of destruction. The report further mentions that bin Laden had not confined himself only to Afghanistan, but was preparing to carry out attacks simultaneously in different parts of the world. The report states that if Osama had been incapacitated at that time, perhaps such a massive attack could have been prevented.
