The President pointed out that language is also a barrier for the common people. She noted that many are unable to understand the arguments presented by lawyers or the judgments delivered by the judiciary. She shared her happiness that court judgments are now being translated into Odia and Santali languages, and these translated judgments are available on the websites of the Supreme Court and Odisha High Court.
The President highlighted that women’s leadership is gaining importance today, and women’s participation is increasing in the judiciary, just as in other sectors. She remarked that 48% of judicial officers in Odisha Judicial Services are women, and she expressed her strong belief that the number of women officers would increase further in the future.
She also emphasized that creating an environment where ordinary citizens can engage with the judicial system without fear is a significant issue. She noted that most of the time, people feel intimidated by appearing before lawyers and judges. A sensitive atmosphere in courts is necessary so that people can express themselves freely.
The President expressed her satisfaction with the design of the new court complex, which caters to current as well as future needs. She mentioned that new technologies are being implemented in the judicial process to accelerate justice delivery. The modern facilities in the court complex will aid in ensuring smooth operations in the judicial field, she added.
